Sikhism advocates equality, social justice, service to humanity, and tolerance for all religions. We base our firm on these principles.

FAQ

Is everyone at your organization Sihk?

No. Sikhs believe that different faiths are like paths up a mountain toward an understanding of God through the pursuit of truth, equity, and justice in our daily lives. The further we go, the greater the similarity of the view ahead. Guru Arjan, the fifth Guru, included writings of Hindu and Muslim saints in the holy scripture, Guru Granth Sahib, to emphasize that no one faith has a monopoly on truth.

Are your clients Sikh?

We welcome clients of all faiths or lack of faith. We try to help all who come to us resolve their legal issues in accordance with their own beliefs. We, therefore, work closely with CatholicParalegal.com, ChristianLDA.com, and HindiParalegal.com.

What areas of law can you help me with?

In keeping with the Sikh tradition of Sikhism advocating service to humanity, we attempt to help everyone, whether by assisting them through our office or finding others who can assist them. Many of our clients have family matters, evictions, civil; cases, criminal cases, personal injury cases, medical malpractice cases, habitability cases, guardianships, conservatorships, estate planning matters, or real property issues.

How much do you charge?

You will find that our rates are generally lower than most other firms, and we give free advice at weekly seminars at the Beale Library and through other events. More information about the events can be found at KernSeminars.com.

Can you give examples of how you take religious beliefs into account in your practice?

Example One: James has been drinking heavily and hitting his wife, Amy. Amy is afraid that James will harm himself or harm her or that he will squander the family’s savings. Her religion does not allow her to divorce. We can help Amy get a restraining order and then obtain a legal separation or an annulment of the marriage. We can then assist her petitioning for a declaration by a Catholic Church tribunal that a marriage thought to be valid according to church law actually fell short of at least one of the essential elements required for a binding union.

Example Two: Cindy became pregnant at a young age. She is too young to care for her child, but her beliefs prevent her from obtaining an abortion. We can help Cindy give the child up for adoption, or we can help Cindy’s parents become guardians of the child until Cindy is old enough to care for it.

Example Three: A.J.’s wife left him many years ago and returned to her mother’s home in her home country. A.J. would like to remarry. We can help A.J. obtain a civil divorce, and then assist him with obtaining permission from the Panj Pyare, elder Gursikhs, or Sangat to remarry.

Professional services

Whether you need assistance with family law, criminal defense, probate, guardianships, conservatorships, immigration, or some other area of law, we can either help you or we will try to find someone who can.

Service to the community

We strive to serve the community and invite you to assist us in our efforts. We volunteer at free legal help clinics at the Beale Library (see KernSeminars.com); we support homeless outreach projects spearheaded by BakersfieldEscape.com, and we otherwise work to give back to the community. Please, join our efforts by helping those who are less fortunate.

Highly recommended. Patient staff consistently and meticulously working on your behalf for the best possible outcome. Completely transparent and empathetic. Would definitely use them in the future!
